Why a Guided Tour?
I wanted to step outside my comfort zone without worrying about all the logistics. With a guided tour, the hotels, transportation, sightseeing, and daily arrangements were all taken care of. All I needed to do was show up and enjoy the adventure!
But I'll admit, I had a few butterflies. Would everyone else be traveling as couples? Would I feel awkward at meals? Would I make friends? As it turned out, those worries quickly disappeared!
Going NOLO ~ Alone, Not Lonely!
I've discovered a term that perfectly captures what I experienced: NOLO ~ Alone, Not Lonely!
Traveling on my own didn't mean spending my days by myself. Quite the opposite! One of the best surprises was how naturally friendships developed. We shared stories, laughter, incredible scenery, and experiences that brought us together. And, I discovered how small the world is, as there were 3 other gals on the trip from Grand Rapids!
Our phenomenal Cosmos Tour Director, Jackie, and driver, Rodney, made the experience even more special with their knowledge, kindness, and personal attention.
And the scenery? Oh. My. Goodness! Five spectacular national parks, all first-time visits for me, and countless moments when I thought, I'm SO glad I decided to do this!
Here's What I Learned…
Traveling solo doesn't mean you have to travel alone!
A guided tour offers a wonderful balance of independence and companionship. You can explore somewhere new, meet interesting people, enjoy shared experiences, and still have time to yourself.
And here's the best part: You don't need to wait for someone else's schedule, interests, or bucket list to match yours!
As a travel advisor, I've recommended guided tours for years. But now that I've experienced one as a solo traveler, I can confidently say what a terrific option they can be for someone wanting to venture out on their own.
So, if there's a destination you've been dreaming about, but you don't have a travel partner, please don't automatically put that dream on hold.
Consider joining a guided tour. You may arrive on your own, but chances are you'll return with wonderful memories, new friendships, and the confidence to do it again!
My advice? GO ANYWAY! Don't wait for a plus-one. The world is waiting.
